After completing my birthday reward journey, I collected over $100 worth of free goodies. The highest value items were from Denny’s ($14.59) and Freshii ($13.49). The lowest value item was the cookie from Subway ($1.35).
In the end, Super C was the cheapest. However, I found was that the bigger stores are very lucky that they have house brands and sales, otherwise a small independent store would have been the clear winner.
In total, 12 out of the 20 grocery items were cheaper at No Frills. And while eight items may have been cheaper at Walmart, here’s the catch: the nearest No Frills actually price matched with FreshCo, Longos, Real Canadian Superstore, and Walmart. Walmart, on the other hand, doesn't price match.
Despite some accounts I read online, this customer service agent DID ask me what was wrong with them, and I had to quickly make up something to satisfy the question. I muttered something about seasoning and taste. She gave me the look and processed the return.
When you strip away combo psychology and subsidized drinks, Burger King comes out ahead on cost per calorie. Across comparable items, it delivers more meat, more total food, and more energy per dollar than McDonald’s.
The cheapest I found was $2000/month at the Cedar Springs Motel in Halton Hills. But that price is rare. It should be noted that this rate doesn't include housekeeping.
