Hey guys!

I'm not going to sugarcoat it.

While MooseMoney is on so many level a huge success (26,000 website visits & 120,000 video views per month!!!), this newsletter packed with deals and value is unfortunately not.

The main issue is that we use a lot of words like "free", "deal", "discounted" and that triggers the increasingly suspicious filters of the main email clients like Gmail and Outlook. As a result, a lot of our emails end up in the promotional tab, or worst, in the spam folder!

This phenomenon is actually limiting our growth.

So for now, I decided to stop sending you this bi-monthly update about deals and value oriented news.

That said MooseMoney is alive and well and I will be emailing you one new story every Friday!

PS: If you like what we do, feel free to visit our website, join our Reddit community and subscribe to our YouTube channel.

Set Up Automatic Minimum Payments on Your Credit Cards and Loans

Late payments can hurt your credit score fast, even if you only miss one. The easiest fix is to set up automatic minimum payments on every credit card and loan. This acts as a safety net so you never miss a due date. You can still make extra payments manually, but automation helps protect your score when life gets busy or you forget.

Tim's Roll Up The Rim Is Back (And Using Real Cups Once Again)

Tim Hortons has announced the return of Roll Up The Rim using the actual physical coffee cups, and this time, it's permanent.

Tim Hortons brought back real roll-up cups in 2025 for the first time since the pandemic, when it moved to the digital app, and customer response was very positive. Because of that success, company leaders say the traditional version of the contest is here to stay. Bringing back physical cups restores the original experience of buying a coffee and rolling the rim to see if you won.

The contest launches at Tim Hortons locations across Canada from Monday, February 23, to Sunday, March 22, 2026.

This year, more than 30 million prizes will be up for grabs, including Volkswagen ID. Buzz vehicles, vacations, and exclusive experiences, gift cards, electronics, cash, and free Tim's items.

If you missed the old-school version, keep an eye out the next time you grab a coffee, because the physical roll is officially back.

New Online Tool Helps Canadians Figure Out What Sports Streaming Really Costs

Have you ever tried to watch your favourite sports team online and wondered why you suddenly need three or four streaming subscriptions? The Globe and Mail has just launched a new tool that can show you how much you’re paying and maybe even help you save money.

The tool covers major leagues, including the NHL, PWHL, MLB, NBA, and CFL. It focuses on streaming services that work without a traditional cable package, such as Sportsnet+, TSN, CBC Gem, and Amazon Prime Video.

You can choose your favourite leagues and teams and see which platforms carry each regular-season game. The tool also shows estimated subscription costs needed for full access. The goal is to simplify what has become a confusing streaming system, where leagues spread games across several services and prices keep rising. You can also save teams to a watchlist and compare upcoming games with the subscriptions you already have.

Right now, the tool mainly covers English-language broadcasts across baseball, basketball, football, and hockey, with plans to expand in the future.

If you’re trying to cut cable but still follow sports, this tool could help you avoid paying for more streaming services than you need.

Barry Choi: Money Tips to Help You Stay Ahead of Rising Prices

Just last week, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 219–211 to roll back the tariffs the president imposed on Canada. It’s a promising development, but meaningful relief is still a long way off.

Instead of waiting for trade policy to settle, it may be more practical to focus on strategies that help you stay ahead of rising prices. Taking action now can make a real difference in how you manage the ongoing impact of inflation.

Track your spending for price increases

Tariffs aren’t hitting every category equally. Imported foods, electronics, clothing, and home goods have seen some of the steepest price increases. If you haven’t already, start tracking the items you buy regularly so you can quickly spot when something jumps in cost.

When prices get out of hand, consider switching to a local or alternative brand that offers better value. Small shifts in your shopping habits can add up fast.

Start hedging with loyalty points

Nearly every major retailer now has a loyalty program, and the biggest ones, such as PC Optimum, Scene+, Aeroplan, and Triangle Rewards, offer multiple partners where you can earn and redeem points.

By concentrating your spending on one or two programs and paying with a matching co‑branded credit card, you can build points surprisingly fast. Those rewards go a long way toward offsetting the cost of groceries, gas, and everyday household essentials.

Review your monthly bills

While most headlines focus on how tariffs are driving up the cost of goods, many services have quietly become more expensive too, and those are often the ones you can control. Streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ have all raised their prices, so trimming even one or two subscriptions can noticeably lower your monthly bill.

But don’t stop at streaming. Many apps and programs renew automatically, making it easy to keep paying for services you no longer use. A quick monthly scan of your credit card statement can help you spot subscriptions that aren’t earning their keep.

Stock up strategically

If you're worried about prices continuing to rise, buying certain essentials ahead of time can be a smart way to stay ahead of rising costs. Focus on shelf‑stable items, such as canned goods, pasta, rice, cleaning supplies, toiletries, and other products you know your household consistently uses. When you spot a good sale, stock up to lock in today’s price and reduce the impact of future increases.

A Dating App Based on Your Credit Score Is Expanding, Including to Canada

A dating app called Score, which matches people partly based on creditworthiness, is making a comeback and expanding beyond its original rules.

When the app first launched, users needed a credit score of at least 675 to join. The goal was to encourage couples to talk openly about finances, something founder Luke Bailey says many people avoid even though money plays an important role in relationships.

The new version opens access to more users. Instead of a single strict credit score requirement, the app now offers different participation tiers. This allows more people to join while still offering verification options connected to identity and financial information.

The idea behind Score is that financial habits and compatibility can affect long-term relationships. The app aims to bring money conversations into dating earlier rather than later.

The relaunch happened in the U.S. just before Valentine’s Day, and international expansion is planned, starting with Canada, so stay tuned!

Free IHOP Pancake Day Coming to Several Canadian Provinces

If you like free food, IHOP will soon be offering a one-day pancake promotion, and several Canadian provinces are included.

According to a RedFlagDeals forum post, IHOP locations in Alberta, B.C., Manitoba, Ontario, and New Brunswick will be giving away free short stacks of buttermilk pancakes on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

The promotion is part of IHOP’s annual pancake celebration and usually requires you to dine in at participating locations. The deal includes a short stack of the restaurant’s classic buttermilk pancakes, making it a simple freebie for anyone who shows up.

These promotions often attract large crowds, so make sure you get there early. As with most limited-time offers, participation may vary by location, so it’s a good idea to confirm with your local restaurant before going.

Still, free pancakes are hard to pass up, especially if you want a low-cost breakfast outing or just an excuse to treat yourself without spending your grocery budget.

Shell Canada Is Dropping AIR MILES for the Scene+ Rewards Program

There’s another big shakeup in Canada’s loyalty points world, with Shell Canada dropping AIR MILES rewards for the Scene+ rewards ecosystem.

The partnership connects Shell with Scene+, Scotiabank, and Tangerine and will allow you to earn and redeem Scene+ points on everyday purchases at participating Shell locations, including fuel, car washes, and eligible convenience-store items.

If you're a loyal Scene+ member, the move extends Scene+ beyond entertainment and travel rewards into more routine spending categories, meaning drivers can now earn points while filling up their tank. The partnership is designed to give members more ways to collect rewards across activities they already do regularly.

If you already collect Scene+ points through Scotiabank products or entertainment purchases, this could make earning rewards noticeably easier, especially if Shell is your regular gas stop.

Furniture Flipping Is a Labour-Intensive Side Hustle That Can Bring in Thousands

This week’s side hustle comes from a Redditor who says they've made good money flipping used couches. They acknowledge that while it’s labour-intensive, the earning potential can be surprisingly high if you’re willing to put in the work.

Their process is simple but hands-on. They search Facebook Marketplace for sectional couches listed cheaply, usually priced anywhere from free to about $100. After picking them up, they clean the couches thoroughly, take high-quality photos, and relist them online for $500 or more. To attract more buyers, they also offer free delivery, which gives them an advantage over sellers who can’t transport large furniture.

According to the Redditor, this side hustle generates between $8,000 and $10,000 in monthly profit. They store inventory in two storage units and a garage, treating it more like a small resale business than a casual side gig.

This hustle isn’t passive. Moving couches takes time, physical effort, and access to a truck or trailer. But that barrier is also what limits competition.

To get started, you probably need access to a truck and some basic cleaning supplies. If you're not planning to go all in (like the person in this story), you may not need the additional storage space. You will need to get a handle on local pricing.

Earnings can vary widely, but if you're comfortable with physical work and local selling apps, furniture flipping can turn into a solid income stream.
