Sex work is work. And major media outlets love to feature the six and seven-figure earners, framing the platform as a digital gold rush just waiting for you to show up with your proverbial pickaxe. But is it really as simple as posting nudes online? I reached out to nearly seventy Canadian OnlyFans models to get the inside scoop.

Only six agreed to speak with me. It’s a sensitive subject, so most OF models did not want to talk about it with a stranger. Two ghosted me before the interview, and one refused to disclose any numbers at all. In the end, I was left with two creators who were willing to walk me through exactly what they earn and how they earn it. Keep in mind, OnlyFans pays creators in US Dollars. Because the exchange rate changes all the time, I am keeping all earnings in USD for clarity and have calculated the CAD equivalent at the time of writing.

Bodacious Booty Bae

Time on OnlyFans: 5 Months

Total Gross Income: $1,400 (CAD $1,967.69)

Total Net Income: $714 (CAD $1,003.52)

Hourly Wage: $2 (CAD $2.81)

“I started OnlyFans as a side hustle because I was frustrated with the rising cost of everything.” The first OF model I interviewed is a married healthcare professional and mom living in Alberta. Online, she goes by Bodacious Booty Bae. Inflation, bills, groceries, and wage stagnation overwhelmed her budget.

She and her husband already had a lot of intimate videos they had filmed together over the course of their ten-year relationship. One day, he admitted to often watching their own recordings when he was alone. She took that as a sign that they already had strong content.

“I figured if this could bring in some extra income, it was worth a try,” she said. So they launched an OnlyFans page together in May 2025 and treated it like a small business.

Before launching, she studied other creators for months, learning what fans respond to. “I built multiple social media accounts, linked them all, and created enticing, short clips that gave off a bit of FOMO without revealing everything,” she said. Her niche is faceless, homemade couple’s content. In under six months, she reached the top 20% of creators. At the time of writing, she sits in the top 14%. She has made a total of $1,400 USD (CAD $1,967.69) to date, which is an average of $280 (CAD $393.54) per month.

Her subscription price is $12.99 (CAD $18.26). After OnlyFans takes its 20% platform fee, she earns about $10 (CAD $14.05) per subscriber per month. The first month’s income was lacklustre, bringing in just $16 (CAD $22.49). But October was her highest-earning month, clocking in at $700 (CAD $983.85). By November 5th, she was already at $300 (CAD $421.65) and on track to double her earnings again.

Her best-performing content is long-form pornographic videos, large photo sets, and direct messaging. “I charge $10-30 (CAD $14.05-$42.16) per message. I've made hundreds in an hour doing this,” she explained. Homemade videos with her husband perform especially well because she’s naturally expressive and vocal on camera. “I like to keep it fun with seasonal themes,” she said. “Bunny ears for Easter, a witch hat and stockings for Halloween, or festive lingerie by the Christmas tree.”

Bodacious Booty Bae spends an average of 17.5 hours per week on her OnlyFans hustle. The bulk of that time goes into boosting visibility through marketing and promoting the page across multiple platforms. “OnlyFans doesn’t have a discovery feed,” she explained, “so you have to drive every click yourself.”

Reddit is her main funnel. She posts in relevant subreddits, and most of her fans discover her there. She uses X (formerly Twitter) as a secondary funnel and wants to expand onto Instagram next. She does everything herself and avoids agencies, but says she is open to paid shoutouts from creators with a similar audience.

“I haven’t spent more than $100 dollars on this since I started,” she explained. Bodacious Booty Bae already owned good lighting, lingerie, and new Apple devices. She also subscribes to a few other creators for research, which she included in that $100. She has not withdrawn any of her earnings yet, but knows she will owe taxes later and expects to pay 30–40%.

What She Actually Makes Per Hour

She may be in the top 14% of creators, but that’s a vanity metric that can be very misleading. Percentiles on OnlyFans are based on gross earnings over a 30-day period, not the number of subscribers. Bodacious Booty Bae explained that creators in the top 15% typically make $500 (CAD $702.75) to $1,000 (CAD $1,405.49) a month, the top 10% make $1,000 to $7,000 (CAD (CAD $1,405.49-$9,838.47), and only a tiny 0.01% earn over $10,000 (CAD $14,054.95) per month.

Once you account for platform fees, equipment, taxes, and the time spent creating and promoting content, the financial picture looks much different. Her real earnings amount to just a few dollars an hour, which shows how these rankings can hide the labour hours behind the numbers.

Megyn Wiley

Time on OnlyFans: 2 Months

Total Gross Income: $1,430 (CAD $2,009.86)

Total Net Income: $715 (CAD $1,004.93)

Hourly Wage: $6 (CAD $8.43)

"It was sort of a bit of a dare that got me online and into content creating." This OnlyFans model goes by the screen name Megyn Wiley. She’s a 40-year-old paralegal and single mother living in Saskatchewan. Rising bills and unreliable child support from her son’s father pushed her to look for extra income. When a friend jokingly suggested she post on NSFW (not safe for work) Reddit groups, Megyn posted a single spicy photo to see what would happen.

The reaction surprised even her. “Within a week, I had over 2,000 people following me,” she said. The attention was the push she needed to create an OnlyFans account in mid-August 2025. At first, she treated it like an experiment with zero financial expectations. “If I can make a little money and help pay the bills, right on,” she explained. “If I make nothing, it’s not a big deal.”

In just two months, Megyn grossed $1,430 (CAD $2,009.86), which averages out to $715 (CAD $1,004.93) per month. The first month was her best so far, bringing in over $500 (CAD 702.75). Since then, her income has fluctuated depending on how much time she devotes to creating new content, engaging with her audience, and advertising on Reddit. “Some weeks I can make $150 (CAD $210.82), some weeks I make $5 (CAD $7.03),” she said.

Her subscription price is free, and most of her income comes from pay-per-view content, custom videos, and live streaming. Shower videos are her top seller and a surprise financial cheat code. “It’s literally me setting up a camera and having a shower,” she said. “I’ve made just as much money off a generic shower as I have with a sexier shower.” She also earns from custom requests, including one of the platform’s more unusual niches. Men submit pictures of their genitals and pay her to rate them. “A lot of the time they want to be degraded,” she laughed.

Megyn says she spends about 15 hours a week on her side gig. She edits videos, designs Canva posts, schedules content, and responds to private messages. Over her two-month tenure, that adds up to roughly 60 hours per month, or about 120 hours total. Once her expenses and the 20% platform fee are applied, her hourly earnings fall to just a few dollars per hour. But Megyn says it’s enough. “It’s keeping me afloat and keeping my head above water.”

She tried to keep costs low, refusing to spend anything until the experiment proved successful. After the money started rolling in, she spent CAD $104.05 on a ring light, some inexpensive lingerie, and digital marketing templates from Etsy. She keeps receipts and plans to hire an accountant at tax time.

Reddit remains her biggest funnel. A single well-timed post can trigger a flood of new subscribers. But this line of work comes with some serious risks to privacy and personal safety. A man she knows in real life recognized her apartment in the background of a photo and began harassing her.

He threatened to share her intimate images and even posted her real name and address online. Megyn had to call the RCMP, and the experience wiped out her income for nearly three weeks. “I like to think of myself as a pretty strong woman,” she explained, “but mentally it affected me a little more than I would have liked it to.”

Despite the challenges, Megyn says the work has become a creative outlet as much as a side hustle. She enjoys the control and the ability to “turn it on and off” depending on her mood. But the creative freedom doesn’t change the math. When you account for fees, expenses, taxes, and labour hours, her net hourly rate is significantly less than minimum wage.

Why OnlyFans is Not a Financial Cheat Code

Beyond sensational headlines, the earning potential is actually quite bleak. According to a report by OnlyGuider, the top 10% of creators make 80% of all the earnings. But once you drop below that bracket, the income falls fast. Half of all creators on the platform make about $24 per month. Then there’s the lacklustre subscriber behaviour. The vast majority of users don’t spend any money at all, with only 4% actually whipping out their wallets. The stark reality is that a part-time, minimum-wage job pays more than what most OF models make. Based on everything these women shared with me, OnlyFans sounds like a creative and empowering side hustle. But don’t bank on quitting your day job.
