I put major streaming and tech platforms to the test to see what my years of Canadian loyalty were actually worth. Turns out, I am only worth $78.91.

Is that good? Not when you know how much I spend.

Streaming costs my family $791.52 a year plus tax. That is a lot of money, especially when free subscriptions exist. What is it worth to Netflix, Spotify and Amazon to keep us? Better yet, what if I cancelled all of my subscriptions? What retention offers would I get to remain a loyal paying customer?

I mean, it's better to keep me than to find my replacement, right?

Wrong. Streaming is stingy. LinkedIn and Google are ready to keep you.

This is what happened.

## Retention offers for Canadians and what I got

Bad news, Canada: the U.S. and the U.K. get better retention offers. Redflagdeals.com has a forum about retention offers. It seems like it is only for cell phone and cable services.

Online forums like Reddit and CancelIt show that there are retention offers available for people in the U.S. and U.K. Unfortunately, Canada doesn't get the same treatment.

## Netflix gave 0% (or zero f\*cks) for 9 years of loyalty

Netflix should thank Canada and my family. First, the Canadian government reduced/eliminated a fee it would have charged U.S. streaming services. Second, my family has been with Netflix for 9 years, paid for Premium, and paid an upcharge to add an extra profile on the account. That totals $31.98 per month before taxes. Netflix needs my loyal ass more than I need it, right?

Don’t forget, we have Canadian streaming options. We have Crave in Canada, and Crave gave us Heated Rivalry. Netflix didn’t invite me to the cottage.

The agent I chatted with guided me to look at other Netflix packages. The agent made a point, in bold, that my satisfaction was what was important. I texted that I wanted a lower price and the chat cut me off like I was a satisfied customer.

I thought I would give them another chance and I started a second chat another day, and I got the same outcome. There is no Netflix retention offer. The agent wrote that if I am eligible for any deals, I would get them in an email.

### Talk to you soon or maybe someday, IDK

So I called Netflix. The agent said that there are no discounts available. I could always go to the Standard plan. The agent didn't know when any promotions were coming out. I asked if they were OK with me cancelling and going to a competitor like Crave or Hulu. She said obviously no, but there is nothing she can offer me.

However, she did tell me that I could get a discount, maybe even 50%, if I get Netflix in a bundle through my cell phone or cable provider.

Isn't Netflix about cord cutting? Why would they send me to a cable provider?

## Spotify gave me 50% off of one month of Family Premium

I spend $23.99 plus tax each month for a Family Premium plan. It provides custom playlists for up to 6 people, and my Spotify Wrapped. That last bit is so that I can see just how much time I wasted on music.

Trying to find the way to cancel my subscription was like getting lost in a hall of mirrors. You cannot do it from the app. You have to do trial-and-error from your account menu from the website. The website!

I clicked on Contact Us and used the chat to explain my case to Customer Service.
I explained that I like Spotify but it is expensive. The agent was very understanding and tried to steer me toward the other available offers. The thing is, I have 4 people, and all of the other offers would end up costing me more.

Spotify gave me 50% of one month. An actual retention offer, not a lot, but something better than what I got from Netflix. All I would have to do is restart my subscription and the deal will be there.

Did my kids read the text that I was cancelling Spotify? Yes. Did my kids scream that they needed ad-free music? Nope. It’s not like I cancelled Disney+, mainly because we don’t have it anymore. Trust me, years ago when I did cancel Disney+, I got whining.

## Amazon Prime made my kid whine

Let’s talk about fast and free shipping. I have seen non-Prime offers for fast and free shipping on Amazon. So what do I get for my $9.99 plus tax monthly Prime subscription? Is it access to Prime streaming? Yes. Do I watch it? Not enough to pay $119.88 a year before taxes.

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/77/c8/77c85479-a0ac-4262-86a4-5bf860683721/content/images/2026/07/A176EAF4-D5DC-4EB5-88FF-18CDB4EDEB6F_1_105_c.jpeg)

Prime tried to keep me with a small retention offer: I get $8.16 back by switching to annual billing. I still cancelled because that is not incentive enough for me right now. I did get an exit survey. I am still watching my email to see if I get a post-cancellation plea email.

When I told the family that I cancelled Prime, my husband was happy. He saw savings. Our kid was different. She actually whined. She loves Prime but doesn't pay for it.

## Tech Platforms vs Streaming: LinkedIn and Google understand what I want

Here is my Canadian niceness coming out again. Maybe LinkedIn doesn’t have to pay for copyright and production fees like Netflix, Amazon, and Spotify. My wallet doesn’t care. My wallet is a business and LinkedIn and Google understand that.

I cancelled LinkedIn Premium and the pop-ups and emails started immediately. Don’t go, reconsider, and here’s a discount right away.

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/77/c8/77c85479-a0ac-4262-86a4-5bf860683721/content/images/2026/07/A95F4983-7349-421A-BC4E-BFB3811B978E_1_105_c-1.jpeg)

I could start with $0 for a month and after that, I would pay $49.99 plus tax a month. I have the option to cancel anytime. So I restarted my LinkedIn and tried to cancel it again, just to see what would happen.

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/77/c8/77c85479-a0ac-4262-86a4-5bf860683721/content/images/2026/07/5A0ABC5B-2B76-4E73-8050-769E48B641FA_1_105_c.jpeg)

Right away, I got another offer to get two months of Premium for $24.99 each. A bit odd, but it made me feel valued. LinkedIn wants me to stay.

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/77/c8/77c85479-a0ac-4262-86a4-5bf860683721/content/images/2026/07/Screen-Shot-2026-07-24-at-11.00.04-AM.png)

The same is for Google storage. I cancelled the extra storage and I am still getting offers to restart it for $0.69 for two months instead of $2.79\. That is 75% off of the regular price for 2 months.

I did not have to negotiate. I didn’t have to explain. It makes it easier to stay.

## I need to switch providers and have zero problems with it

Taking the $8.16 rebate plus the new flat fee of $99 from Amazon, the $0 from Netflix and the $11.99 from Spotify, I saved $24.72 before tax. LinkedIn immediately offered me 8.33% off a year's worth of payments with the option to cancel anytime. Google offered me 12.5% off of storage for the year.

If I want better deals, I need to switch providers and have zero problems with it. At worst, if the companies are going to FAFO, I can just cancel everything and try the radio and the library for a while. While I'm at it, I can get free conversations with a friend.
